Manawatu Rifle Association

A meeting of Association Club delegates "was held on Monday evening, those present being Messrs. F. It. Lewis, H. Barlow, of Linton (Palmerston North club), L. Mathews, J. Newport (Legion of Frontiersmen Club), J. McNeill (Tokomaru club), W. G. Jiomloy, It. A. Jones, W. J. Jenkins (Ashhurst club). The president, Mr. W. G. Romley, presided and extended a welcome to the Legion delegates. The secretary, Mr. It. A. Jones, read correspondence from the New Zealand National Rifle Association secretary and the president of the New Zealand branch of the British N.R.A. A report from Mr. F. J. Soler, the local district N.R.A. executive ofticer, on the recent meeting of the N.R.A. executive, was discussed. The report made mention that ammunition and rifles were to be made available very soon, though at present the local Army office reports they have no information on the subject. The date for the Manawatu riflo championship was confirmed as January 22, 1946, to commence at 8 a.m. at 300 yards. Entry fees were fixed at 30s, the same as last meeting, while competitors are to supply their own ammunition. Grading was discussed and grades were fixed as follow:—C grade are competitors who have not won a club championship or a prize of 10s or ovor during the past seven years. B grade are competitors who have not won a club championship or a prize of £1 or over during the past seven years. Teams of five will shoot for the valuable Greer Shield under the same conditions as at the last meeting. Range officers for

the meeting were appointed as follow: J. C. Hargreaves, F. R. Lewis, W. R. Kells, W. G. Romley, W. j. Jenkins and J. Newport, two to act at each range. The shooting executive appointed is: F. J, Soler, J. McNeill, M. Hausmann, W. G. Romley and W. R. Kells. Votes of thanks were accorded the patron, Mr. W. R. Kells, for a donation of one guinea; deputy president, It. Barlow for a miniature shield for the B grade aggregate; and Mr. Harry Carey for the Manawatu championship trophy. It was decided to increase tho prize lists if entries warrant it.
