Women’s Section of The National Party
Mrs. W. F. Field presided over a large attendance at the final meeting of the year of tho women’s section of the National Party. The president reported on the women's meeting convened by the National Counci! of Women to hear the appeal for funds to set up a Chair of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Auckland; also the setting up of a local committee and possible developments. A report of the year’s work of the war work section was presented by Mrs. G. Watehorn (secretary) who paid tribute to the efforts of the convener. Appreciation was expressed of the woollen rugs sent in by Mrs. Deroles which had been sent to England through the United Guild, also of -lovely parcels of baby's garments and layettes sent in by Miss L. D’Ath and the help of other good friends. During the working year, Sfi garments had been forwarded to tho United Guild, and two 111 b. parcels containing knitted garments for children up to the age of 5 had been sent (o England and another -was ready to go. It was decided to go into recess until February and it would then be decided whether the circle would carry on. Although the war was over there was still need of help for the Mother Country and ti.e section might be able to help in some small way. The report concluded with seasonal greetings with hopes of success in the coming year. The president paid glowing tribute to the work
of the war work section, moving a hearty vote of thanks to the members and particularly to the leaders, which was carried by acclamation. For tho bridge players, Airs. Everiss reported on the year’s activities as a result of which substantial sums had been handed to the club funds and to the women's section. Appreciation was also expressed to the conveners, the tea helpers and all who had donated trophies month by month. Matters in connection with the club were raised bv Mrs. Field and given consideration. Several reports were held over until the next meeting to hear a short address by Mr. L. Plimmer on “Democracy and its Relation to tho National Party,” and also to welcome Mr. T. Hills, organising secretary of the National PaTty, who conveyed an appreciation from headquarters of the work of the women's section. Mrs. Field voiced the thanks of the meeting to the speakers. Mr. Plimmer had announced himself as a candidate for ballot and she felt it was right he should speak to the women’s section as she hoped any other candidate would do also. She thanked the members for Icyai cooperation and wished them the compliments of the season counselling them all to come back in the New Year ready for further good work and armed with suggesetions for greater activity. Afternoon tea concluded the meeting.
