Fire Plugs Inspected.

“Approximately 85 per cent, of the lire plugs in the city have been inspected and cleaned out where necessary,"

said the superintendent of the Palmerston North Fire Brigade (Mr. N. G. Buick) in a report to the Palmerston North Fire Board yesterday. “The work will be completed within a few days when matters requiring the attention of the City Council will be reported for action. Fire plugs in Main Street west are most difficult to locate, and X would recommend that the City Council be requested to attend to this matter. 1 * Meteor Jet Aircraft. The transfer of a Gloster Meteor jetpropelled aircraft ton loan from the B.A.F. to New Zealand was referred to yesterday by the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. .Tones). Describing how New Zealand pilots would be given opportunities to receive jet flying instruction while other personnel would be trained in jet aircraft servicing, the Minister saicl the aircraft would be loaned for approximately 12 months. New Zealanders now in Britain had been engaging in jet research work and they would be employed on servicing and instructional work on their return to this country. “Naturally, we want B.N.Z.A.F. personnel to be kept up-to-date in modern aircraft developments/ * said Mr. Jones. “It is hoped that the Meteor, which leaves Liverpool for New Zealand this month, will be flown over most of the New Zealand towns and districts/*
