Intermediate School Writing.
“I have pleasure in reporting that this year the school competed in the writing classes at the Wairarapa and Wanganui shows,” reported the principal (Mr. J. C. Whibley) to a meeting of the Palmerston North Intermediate School Committee last night. “At Masterton our pupils won Ist, 2nd and v.h.c. in the Form I, and at Wanganui 2nd and 3rd in the Form I, and Ist, 2nd and 3rd in Form TT, ** Fire Brigade Staff. The fact that a number of pre-war personnel had now returned to duty with the brigade, was reported by the superintendent (Mr. N. G. Buick) at yesterday's meeting of the Palmerston North Fire Board. This had resulted in the permanent strength being now two below normal. The present staff position was as follows: Permanent staff, three officers, 11 firemen and one watchroom attendant; auxiliary staff, five resident and 12 non-resident firemen.
