Bulls

(From Our Own Correspondent) Early last week in the Bulls Town Hall the friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. Sutherland gathered to extend their congratulations on the coming of age of Miss Dorothy Sutherland and to her brother lan. on his acceptance into the Navy. There were approximately 230 present and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Music for the dancing was provided by an orchestra from Marton and during the evening items were given by Miss M. Sutherland and Mrs. M. Brookie. At the conclusion of supper the toasts of the evening were honoured. Following the Loyal Toast the M.C., Mr. Marshall Anderson* called upon Mr. T. Carson to propose the toast to lau. Mr. Carson mentioned the fact that although lan had always been known as the “General’ 5 he was now setting out to become an Admiral. Knowing his qualities, he was sure that he would be successful and would add to the laurels of the township of Bulls. In reply fan stated that although it was with sorrow that he left his home town, he would carry with him very pleasant thoughts and would return to Bulls as often as possible. lan is fortunate, however, in that he has relations in England who are anxious to ] welcome their cousin from New Zealand. The next toast was to Dorothy I and this was proposed by Mr. L. M. Richards and replied to by Mr. W. SuthI erland jnr. Mr. C. H. This, together with a dona tion of £25 and other small donations, will help the Bulls district Young Farmers’ Club in playing its part in the Y.F.C. Memorial Scheme. On Saturday the Bulls tennis team played its first match in the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association’s interclub competition. The match played at Bulls was against Milson and resulted in a win for the local team, 11—5. At a meeting on Saturday evening the captain and secretary, Mr. and Mrs. K.
