Outstanding Record of P.N. Swimming Club
When the Palmerston North Swimming Club held its annual general meeting recently it was reported that 21 of the club’s swimmers captured 33 of the 35 titles at the Manawatu championships, in which six clubs 'were represented. During the year 11 members had gained th. Bronze Medallion of the Royal Life-Saving Society, three the award of merit, and two had obtained their instructors’ badges. The provision of a supply of hot water from the mill of Messrs. William Cook and Sons, Ltd., had been a big factor in the improvement shown and in the greater enjoyment of the pool, the report proceeds. It was anticipated that another long-felt want would be provided this season with the .provision of a standard three-metre springboard. Members would then be able to take up diving under proper conditions and develop sufficient skill to compete with divers from other districts. Eight club members represented the Manawatu district in the New Zealand championships, the largest number to go forward from the district. Recognising that swimming was part of the school syllabus, the club had confined its activities to teaching non-swimming adults. Improving both style and ability was one of the club activities, and the record of its members’ performances was proof that the instruction was along the right lines.
The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr. A. E. Mansford; president, Mr. H. L. Young; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. x’remaine, R. L. Aitchison, P. Robbie, C. Taylor, J.
