Levin Semi-Finals
CONDITIONS WERE GOOD AT AWAFUNI YESTERDAY
Horses engaged at the Levin meeting -were given their semi-tinal gallops at Awapuni under ideal conditions. Some -worked on the course proper where the flags were thirty feet out and others on the plough which was slow over the last three furlongs.
Broiefield (G. R. Tattersall) worked over a mile and three furlongs, keeping to fifteen to the furlong for the first mile. Then he was given his head and he came home brilliantly in 38 3-5. Ho has improved a lot during the last week or two.
Langue d’Or and Saludos galloped a mile and they were going well at the finish after running the full distance in 3.49 4-5. V. J. Sellars is to ride Langue d’Or in the New Zealand Cup. Kaitoa (B. Borham) worked over about a mile and a quarter with little pace on to the three from which peg he slipped home smoothly in 3S 3-5. Tremello (Tattersall) also covered a mile and a quarter, being “under a good hold to the three. There he was speeded up to run the last three easily in 39. Alethea (Sellars) also worked once round with the pace on for the last three in 39.
Swift Jay (W. J. Broughton) covered the last seven of a mile in 3.35 and the last three in 41 3-5. Beneve (H. Pearce) was in front of First King (Broughton) at the end of six from the barrier run in 1.22 3-5. They cut the first three out in 40 2-5. Rampant (G. Walker) covered the last five of a mile in 1.8 1-5. Theolateral (Broughton) went from the six furlong barrier and he could have done better than 1.10 3-5 for the last five. Fen (A. S. Ewan) was home in 42 to run the last seven of a mile in 1.39. Lord Bradbury (Broughton) and Sir Bradbury (D. Collins) were never oil the bit when running five in 1.10 2-5, the last three in 42. Gala Song (A. Bowness) went onco round, the pace being quickened for the last three in 40. Young Margaret (Collins) was timed to run half a mile in 54 2-5. Indira (Tatterstll) was given a “pipe-oponer” over three and she was not required to do better than 39 4-5. Dileas (Tattersall) worked over a mile, being kept to just under 16 to the furlong to the three from which peg ho came home easily in 39 4-5. On the Plough. Flying Ace (J. Fagan) was keen to work and he sprinted six furlongs easily in 1.23. Dutch Mary (R. Saunders), from the same stable, began quickly and went on to cover five in 1.9 3-5. She looks well. Theiolyn (Ewan) did strong pace work but was not out to make time. Don Mac (Tattersall) had Park Light as a companion in a three furlong flutter which took then! 39 3-5. as a companion in t three furlong flutter which took them 39 3-5.
