Demand for Jewish State in Palestine
Received Tuesday, 9.45 p.m. WASHINGTON, Nov. 13. A large number of chanting rabbis marched from Washington railway station to the Capitol building in a demonstration for the opening of Palestine to unrestricted Jewish immigration. They were met on the steps of the Senate by four members of the House of Representatives and three Senators, to whom they presented a petition asking for the immediate entry of 100,000 Jews into Palestine, the repudiation of the British White Paper of 1939, the release of Jewish patriots from prison camps in Africa, the Middle East, and the establishment of a Jewish State within Palestine. Senator McKellar, Senate president pro tem, told the .group: “I am 100 per cent, in favour of the part in your petition which asks Palestine to be set apart as a Jewish refuge.” The officer administering the Palestine Government has invited leading Arab and Jewish personalities to meet him tomorrow, says the London Times’ Jerusalem correspondent. Although the reason for the meeting is not given, the tone of the invitations indicates that the Government has an important statement to make. It is surmised that this concerns the future of Palestine.
