Demonstration Concert
The W.I. Hall was comfortably filled on Monday evening when members of the Girls’ Life Brigade under Captain Powell and Lieutenant Cotter, staged a demonstration concert. The Brigade’s four square ideal was well illustrated by the programme submitted; items of which were:—Piano solos, Pte. Loi3 Lawrence; junior play, Shirley Styles, Vaila Bullot, Betty Bendett, Ephney Harrison, Beverley Spackman, Nan Bennett and Joan Dunstan; vocal duets, Lois Lawrence and Beverley Powell; elocutionary items, Shirley Styles; two other plays, Jill Smith, Beverley Powell, June Walker, Freda 6’Brien, Ngaire Beale, Jean Cotter, Lois Lawrence, Margaret Court, Dapline Allott and Pauline Lane. One of the highlights of the evening was the novelty inarch. At the conclusion of the programme, the Brigade was drawn up and Captain. Powell, with Lieut. Cotter and Warrant Officer Olsson as flag-bearer beside her, addressed the gathering, thanking all for their presence, Mrs. Terry for floral decoration, and the Brigade for their performance. She especially remembered Margaret Penn, wiio has been for some time in hospital. Speaking as a parent, Rev. Penn thanked Captain Powell for the splendid work being done by tfte officers of the Brigade.
