“Wilful Murder” of Newly-born Child
(Per Press Association.) NELSON, Nov. 9.
“The evidence of the doctor indicates wilful murder, ” said the Coroner at the inquest concerning the body of a newly-born female European child found in the Maitai River bed in only a few inches of water yesterday. It was wrapped in sacking and paper. Dr. Brian Hill, of Nelson Hospital, said a post-mortem examination showed that the lungs were those of a child which had breathed. The body did not present the appearance of death by drowning, exposure or immersion in water. The inquest was adjourned to enable the police to ascertain the identity of the body and make investigations.
