Lifting of Electricity Restrictions for VJ Day
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 14. The restrictions on the use of electricity which apply to the North Island because of the power shortage are to be lifted for the two days of the peace celebrations but will apply again as soon as the celebrations are over. The Minister of Works (Hon. R. 'Semple) stated tonight that the restrictions lifted for the two days apply to the lighting of shop fronts, streets, cinemas, and the like, but no special illuminations will be allowed. As the restrictions do not apply to the South Island special illuminations will be possible there.
