Massey College Rugby Team

The defeat of the Auckland University Rugby team by Massey Agricultural College at Auckland last Saturday leaves Massey College as the season’s premier University Rugby team of the North Island. Earlier this winter Massey defeated Victoria University (Wellington) by 15 to 5, and followed that up by accounting for Canterbury Agricultural College (Lincoln) by 12 points to 3. Saturday’s match, the last inter-uni-versity game for this season, was attended by nearly 10,000 spectators. The Auckland team, which has done well in club competition games this winter, was at full strength. Massey College had not, immediately prior to the game, played at all as a team for four consecutive weeks, owing to a vacation intervening. Several of the team, many of whom are still in their teens, have not played senior club football prior to this season.

At the week-end the Feilding Golf Club conducted a four-ball best ball bogey and some good scores were returned. The competition resulted in a tie between C. B. Thomas and P. Whiteman and C. Curtis and Z. McLeod, both pairs finishing sup ou bogey. Detailed results are: C. B. Thomas and P. Whiteman, 5 up; C. Curtis and Z. McLeod, 5 up; A. C., McCorkindale and D. J. Hay, 4 up; V. J. Stichbury and M. Barltrop, 3 up; B. Lawrence and S. E. Addis, 3 up; T. Donaldson and J. Perry, 2 up; P. G. Miles and Rev. A. M. Ferguson, 1 up; K. G. Salmond and L. Gorton, all square* L. A. Reichenbach and L. W. Penhey, all square.
