VICTORY CELEBRATIONS. are hereby notified that , should the surrender of Japan be confirmed before 8 a.m. to-day, Monday, there will be a public holiday to-day (Monday), and public celebrations will be held as under: — Church Services: Suburban churches, 9.30 a.m.; central churches, 10 a.m. General Celebrations and Procession: 11 a.m. Public Service of Thanksgiving at the Opera House at 2.30 p.m. Evening Programme (First Day): 7 p.m., at Band Rotunda, music by Highland Pipe, Garrison and City Bands. 8 p.m., Community Singing (Song leaders, Chapman Bros.); revelry by Massey College Students. 9.30 p.m.. Open air Dancing. Midnight, Finale by Pipe Band. THE PROCESSION will take place at II a.m. immediately following the Church Services and the following will participate and will fall in at the Opera House:— BANDS: Garrison Band, City Band, Highland Pipe Band, Salvation Army Band. New Zealand Army, H.M. Navy, Royal New Zealand Air Force, South African War Veterans, Returned Servicemen of the Great War, Returned Servicemen of the Present War, Ex-Home Servicemen, Home Guard, and D.E.5.0., Air Training Corps, Legion of Frontiersmen, E.P.S., High School Cadets and Pupils, Technical School Cadets and Pupils, Marist High School and Convent Primary and Secondary Schools. Intermediate School, Massey College Students, Boys’ Brigade, Manawatu Bat. Boy Scotits, Fire Brigade, Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, Women’s Royal Naval Section, Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps., Women’s War Service Auxiliary, Women’s Land Army, Red Cross (all Branches), Voluntary Aid Division, ' St. John Ambulance (all Branches), Girls’ Life Brigade, Girl Guides, High School Girls. The Procession will march round The Square to the Band Rotunda, where addresses will be delivered. Marshalls for Procession: Captain K. G. Chamberlain, M.B.E. and Inspector J. Shearer. All business houses and others are asked to hoist their flags and to display bunting of any description. At 9 a.m. whistles, sirens and bells will bo sounded.
