The Official Programme

Should the unconditional surrender of Japan be confirmed by 8 a.m. today (Monday), the day will be declared a public holiday and public celebrations will be held as under. All churches will hold services at 9.30 a.m. in suburban churches and 10 a.m. in the central

churches and a procession will take place at IJ a.m. Final notifications will be broadcast from 2ZA after the official announcement is received.

The Procession will include a large number of Units which are specified in another advertisment in this issue, together with any other institutions wishing to take part. The place of assembly will be the vicinity of the Opera House where Units will form up in column of six under their Commanders at the following positions, 15 minutes before the procession is due to start.

Units and Assembly Pointß.—Bands, by Presbyterian Church; all ex-Serviee-men in mufti, including Home Guard and D.E.S.C., in Ashley Street; all Armed Forces in uniform, including Servicewomen, in front of Police Station; Land Girls, W.W.S.A., V.A.D., by Lodge Kilwinning; Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, between Baptist Church and Church of Christ Scientist; Legion pf Frontiersmen, by Presbyterian Church; E.P.S. and A.T.C., by Church of Christ Scientist; High School Cadets, by 405 Church Street; Technical School Cadets, by Princess Street, between Church and Main Streets; Boy Scouts, by Opera House; Boys’ Brigade, Opera House side entrance; Girl Guides and Girls ’ Life Brigade, by Opera House dairy; Massey College Students, by 400 Church Street; Girls’ High School, by 404 Church Street; Girls’ Technical School, by Orient Hall; Marist and Convent School, in Princess Street, between Church and Ferguson Streets; Intermediate School, in Princess Street, behind Marist School; primary schools, in parking area next Club Hotel; other units, to be arranged.

Plan of Assembly Points has been prepared and copies can be obtained from Captain Chamberlain at the Army Office, King .Street, or Inspector Shearer.

PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN will not march in the procession, but will be formed up to see the procession as it passes. These children will first of all assemble in charge of their teachers in the Parking Area next to the Club Hotel, and, immediately before the procession starts, they will be formed up in column and will line the South-East side of the Square from the Club Hotel to the City Council Chambers. After the procession passes, they will bo moved up to the front of the Band Ro tunda (Fitzherbert Avenue Extension).

ORDER OF MARCH.—The procession will start from the Club Hotel and will njarch in column of six with 35 paces interval between Units. Bands will be suitably spaced throughout the procession. The route will be along the South-East side of the Square to the Council Chambers, there turning right, crossing the Railway Line, turning right to pass the Cenotaph, which will be the Saluting Base, Unit Commanders .giving the order 'Eves Right” and

“Eyes Front”; turning left at the Post Office, left again at C. and C.’» then along the North-Western side of the Square, through Coleman Place to George Street, then left to Main Street, and then right crossing the Railway Line. The first half of the procession will continue to march around the South-Eastern part of the Square, turning left at the P.D.C. and again at Watson Bros, and forming up along the street in front of the Rotunda (Main Street Extension). The second half of the procession, after crossing the line, will turn left into the opposite end of the same street in front of Rotunda. The Bands will take up their positions near the Rotunda, except the Pipe Band which will take post near the Libvary corner ready to march the Primary Children back to the Parking Area after the service. The Thanksgiving Service ut the Rotunda will commence about 11.30. The Bands will accompany the National Anthem and other Hvmns. DISPERSAL.—At the conclusion of the service, Units will march off under their own commands to those sections of Main Street outside the Square, and dismiss.
