Queen Mary’s Great Welcome Home

Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 12. Southampton gave the liner Queen Mary a great welcome home when she arrived there for the first time since a few days before the outbreak of war. The Queen Mary sailed under special secret orders to the United States and when she arrived in Britain subsequently she always berthed at Greenock in Scotland. The Mayor of Southampton as Admiral of the Port headed the official party which boarded the Queen Mary after she berthed. The siren of every ship in port and its approaches shrieked a welcome as the liner came up Southampton Water. Crowds along the foreshore waved and cheered and bands played on the quayside, while pleasure steamers ran trips lor sightseers.
