Red Glare’s Good Effort Red Glare was the favourite for the Hunt Cup Steeple® and he won easily from Edward after a display of really sound jumping. There were seven starters and the field was quickly reduced. Extra was the first casualty. Whiphand refused to tackle the first of the stand double. Then Filibeg fell, leaving Red Glare and Cobalt in charge from Edward and Jacksonville, while with a. mile still to go, Red Glare was a dozen lengths clear of Edward with more daylight to Cobalt. Cobalt fell soon afterwards and Red Glare and Edward were the only ones left. Edward was under pressure over the last bit but Red Glare made no mistake and he won easily. Cobalt was remounted to get third money. L. C. Brown, rider of Extra, broke a leg. Dauber Made No Mistakes Dauber was favourite for the Lincoln Steeples.. He made no mistakes and after going to the front four furlongs from home he did not give his backers much to worry about. Tenorman, Steward and Kilmanagh were prominent early and so was Foxiana but Foxiana fell at the sod wall. With a mile to go Tenorman was in front over a length clear of Abbey Lu, Steward and Kilmanagh and it was then that Dauber moved up to be with Kilmanagh and Tenorman half a mile from home. From there on there was only Dauber in it and he won decisively from Steward with Kilmanagh a fair third. Abbey Lu was foutrh. Journey Suited Arabian Night Arabian Night was in elgth place behind Flying Spy, Abdicate, Betterman, Good Armour, Mynet, Renascor and Maggiore a mile from home in the Grand National Hurdles and from there on he Improved steadily. With one hurdle still to jump he and Betterman were in front with Boolamskee challenging. Boolamskee fell at the last fence and Arabian Night ran home a winner by four lengths from Mynet with Good Armour five lengths further back. Betterman was fourth. Sphere Paid a Price The Waimate-trained Sphere, upset calculations in the Islington Handicap. Lord Darnley led into the straight attended by Sphere, Amorlad, Silver Sal and Caithness and in a good finish Sphere got up to beat Amorlad by half a length with Lord Darnley half a length further back. Silver Sal, Salary and Lord Dundonald were next home. AUSTRALIAN STEEPLECHASE WON BY TENTE MELBOURNE, August 12.
