Westport Wedding Of District Interest
HANSEN—MacGREGOR A pretty wedding took place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westport, ou April 4 when Jean, youngest daughter of Mrs. aud the late Mr. A. MacGregor, Stockton Mines, Westport, was married to L.A.C. Ernest Mervyu, R.N.Z.A.F., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Poul Hansen, of Palmerston North, and eldest grandson of Mrs. and the late Mr. J. Hansen, of Carnarvon. Rev. A. McNeur officiated, and Mrs. Slack, of Stockton, friend of the bride, was organist. The bride, who entered the church escorted by her eldest brother, Mr. A. MacGregor, of Blenheim, looked charming in a g.own of heavy white embossed, cloquing. Tho bodice, trimmed with buttons down the front, Elizabethian collar and full-length sleeves, was gathered on to a panelled skirt with a three-pointed train. Her beautiful embroidered tulle veil was held in place by a spray of white roses and she carried a bouquet of white daisies, chrysanthemums, carnations and maiden hair fern, with tartan ribbon streamers. Her dress was relieved by a single red rose presented by the bridegroom. In attendance were two bridesmaids, Miss Marie Ebblewhite (chief) and Miss Coral Adlington, of Danuevirke, niece of the bride. Both looked sw'eet in ankle-length frocks of .light saxo blue phantom marocain, a spray of pink fiowers in their hair and they carried posies to tone. Mr. Lex MacGregor, of Blenheim, nephew of the bride, wearing traditional Scotch costume, acted as best man. Mr. Gordon Hausen, brother of the bridegroom, was groomsman. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a silver and white horseshoe by her little niece, Helen MacGregor. A reception was held at the Elite tea rooms, Westport, where Mrs. A. MacGregor, sister-in-law of the bride, received the guests, wearing jj. black costume and hat, with black accessories and red shoulder spray. She was assisted by Mrs. Poul Hansen, mother of the bridegroom, who wore a rose pink frock, hat and light coat with shoulder spray to tone. The bride cut the cake with a Scottish dirk loaned by a friend, and above where the happy couple sat in the tea rooms was draped by a Scottish plaid. Rev. McNeur officiated as toastmaster, and many congratulatory telegrams were read, including u cable from the bridegroom’s brother-in-law, Pte. Ernie Blakemore, who is serving overseas. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a gold locket and chain, aud the bride’s to the bridegroom a gold ring. They were the recipients of many handsome presents and monetary gifts, which testified to the popularity of the happy couple. Before the bridal couple left on their honeymoon they atteuded a dance which was held for the residents of Stockton and which was well attended and enjoyed by all present. The bride appeared for travelling in a grey ! frock, coat, hat, and black accessories. Their honeymoon was spent .travelling the South Island, and then a trip to the North Island where the bridegroom is stationed, and the bride returning to her I ime iu Stockton. Among those present for the wedding were W.A.L. Thelma Hunt, of the R.N.Z.A.F., Nelson, Mrs. Blakemore, Palmerston North, and Mr. M. MacGregor, Waitomo district. Mr. and Mrs. Poul Hansen, accompanied by Mrs. Blakemore and Mr. Gordon Hansen, left next day for Christchurch, and later for Invercargill before returning to Palmerston North.
