Borough Council Meets

The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council was held on Monday evening last when the Mayor (Mr. S. J. Judd) presided. There were also present Crs. W. A. Car the w, 11. Gardiner, S. K. Siddells, W. D. C. Crewe, W. H. Watson, C. P. Davies and A. Mills. The Mayor congratulated the town clerk, Mr. L. D. Lovelock, on the excellent rate collection. The town clerk outlined the commitments of the council up to the end of March, and taking into account the amounts provided for various commitments which as yet were not finalised as to liability, ho hoped the council would show a reasonable credit balance to be carried forward into the new financial year. The report of the w’orks committee showed that the tar sealing work was proceeding satisfactorily, and nearly all the priority atreeta had received

their first coat. Tho overseer was directed to proceed with the second and final coat of tar on these streets before any other work, except of an urgent maintenance nature. By April, it was hoped to proceed with the formation work of the new footpath construction around tho new State houses in King Street. The town clerk was instructed to prepare for publication a precis of the work to bo undertaken during the next financial year in respect of footpath work, so that the ratepayers will be kept conversant with council plans on their behalf. Matters in connection with the visit of his Excellency the Governor-General on Ist prox. were discussed and will bo finalised when they are considered by a meeting of the Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce to be held this evening in Council Chambers.
