(From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual sports of the Bunnythorpe {School were held on Friday under ideal conditions after having been postponed from last year on account of the weather. Jepsen 1, M. Moberly 2, K. Hooper 3. The Patriotic Committee recently , held a social and dance in honour of 2/Lieut. A. O’Donnell, who is home on furlough from the Middle East. Items were contributed by a Whakarongo trio and solos by Mesdames Weastell, Pusterla and Cameron. A welcome to the guest of honour was extended by Air. A. H. Faulkner and Mr. A. F. McKenzie. In replying, 2/Lieut. O’Donnell voiced appreciation to the ladies , of the district responsible for the regular dispatch of parcels to him and , tlic other men overseas. He said the regular and continued receipt of these parcels was very much appreciated. The ladies of the committee served supper and dancing to a professional orchestra continued till a late hour, Mr. Northcott acting as M.C. The Anglican Ladies’ Guild recently held their first social afternoon for 1945. The competition winners was Mrs. Stevens, while cards were won by Mrs. Davies. Mesdames Pedersen and Greenhow acted as hostesses. The first meeting of the \ oar of the Methodist Ladies’ Guild was presided over by Mrs. Gunn and there was a fair number of members present. Arrangements were made to take the Associated Guilds shop on the last Thursday of this month. Arrangements were also made to change the day ox Guild for April as the day coincided with Easter. The monthly competitions w r ere won as follows:—Oven cloth: Mrs. Petersen 1, Airs. Lawrence 2, Airs. Gunn 3; single bloom: Airs. A. Stewart 1, Airs. Petersen 2, Airs. Gunn 3; cluster bloom: Mrs. A. Stewart 1, Airs. Scheldt 2, Mrs. Lawrence 3. Next month’s competitions are to be blooms and novelty to cost not more than Is. Alesdames Petersen and Jejjsen acted as hostesses. Arrangements are well in hand for the local show which takes place in the hall on February 24. Air. and Mrs. A. H. Faulkner and family, who have been spending a holiday at Napier, have returned home. Air. and Mrs. R. Abraham and family have returned home from a holiday camping at Waikanae. ALr. and Mrs. C. Harris have returned from a holiday spent at Parapa rau mu. Airs. Alulholland and family, who have been spending a holiday at Paraparaumu, have returned home. Graham and Noreen Harris have returned from a holiday spent at To Kawhata and Auckland. Air. A. Harris, of Paraparaumu, is the guest of Air. and Airs. C. Harris. Mrs. H. Wallace, of Auckland, who has been the guest of Air. and Mrs. Weastell, has returned home. Aliss Armstrong is spending a holiday in Wellington. Airs. Pascoe and Barry, who have been spending a holiday at Wellington, have returned. Aliss Alison Gunn and Miss Ruth Williamson have left to commence the new term at Solway College, Masterton. Mrs. Hammond is spending a holiday at the Tangimoana Beach. Airs. Alontgomery and her two small sons are also spending a holiday at the beach. The Bunnythorpe Young Farmers’ Club held its monthly meeting recently, Air. S. Anderson presiding over a good attendance. Arrangements were finalised in connection with the Y.F.C. Section in the Flower Show, Mr. Donald being appointed steward. The annual meeting will be held in Alarch when district officers will be present. A talk was given on the countries of the Aliddle East and Italy by Lieut. A. O ’Donnell, who is home on furlough.
