Willard Children’s Home Board

In tho absence of Mrs. E. C. Barnett, Who is in the South Island, Mrs. K. McDonald presided over the first meeting of the year of Willard Children’s Home Board and extended a welcome to the members on reassembling after the holiday recess. She particularly mentioned Mesdames W. Child and E. Carne, who were jireseut for the first time as new members: Sympathy was expressed with Mrs. R. B. Robertson (Fitzherbert Avenue) who had been in hospital for an operation and pleasure expressed that she was convalescing and able to go on holiday to Paraparaumu Beach. The resignation of Mrs. K. Sloman, owing to ill health whs received with regret and appreciation expressed of her services. The matron's report stated that during the holidays several entertainments had been arranged for the children. The Happiness 01u,b had invited them to a Christmas party; the Salvation Army Torehbearers rendered Christmas carols on December 16; visits had been paid to Father Christmas at the Cave; and at the invitation of the Child Welfare Department the children had attended a matinee at tho Meteor Theatre. On December 27 the children were happily entertained by' Miss S. Page with pony rides in the school grounds. After that date children who were not on holiday were given treats to Ashhurst, Foxton and Terrace End Park. Two children had been discharged. The matron intimated the need for a weighing machine, new house linen, uniforms and material for the children’s aprons, also some children's clothing. Appreciation was expressed with the frigidaire recently installed, repairs to the washing machine and cooker, also that tho painting of tables and chairs •was well in hand. The question of an outside playroom was further discussed. Mesdames Bcdingfield, Child and Carne were appointed visitors to tho Home for next month.

Members of the l’lunket Mothers' Club held their opening night on Monday, the president (Mrs. C. »S. Lawson) offering greetings with the hope that the new year would be a happy one anil profitable one for the elub. A demonstration of methods of preserving fruit and vegetables was given by Mrs. H. M. Foster, and elocutionary items were contributed by Misses Floyd aud Richardson and Master Hughes. Mrs. Lawson convey'cd thanks to Mrs. Foster and the performers.
