P.D.C. Liberty Ball
Owing to the excellent publicity of Miss L. Procter (Susan) and Mr. W. M. Sexton (managing director), backed by good team work of the committee, the Premier Drapery Company’s Liberty Ball was an outstanding success on Wednesday night. The George Street Ballroom presented an animated scene when a largo number of enthusiasts entered into a popular programme ably directed by Messrs. L. Rees and R. Greenwood, with novelty dances to add to the fun. The supper was a feature of the evening with lobster savouries and all prepared solely by the P.D.C. staff. The tables were attractively recorated with rnanv varieties of spring flowers. The committee responsible for the function comprised: Misses Quarrie, Millington, Lee, Barsanti, Mackay, Messrs W. Gough and (chairman) Greenwood. The members of the staff who were present wore distinguishing ribbons of pale blue ami white. Guests of honour were the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Mansford), the managing director (Mr. Sexton) and his daughter, Mrs. Al. Millard, also directors of the P.D.C. Mrs. Mansford wore black crepe romaine with a cape of Russian fitch; Airs. Laing w r as in black satin crepe with an angora cape, also hyacinth corsage; Airs Alillard had chosen cire taffeta with a fur cape. Lively dance music was provided by a professional orchestra aiid winners of competitions were:—Mrs. Page and Air. G. Pereta (Lucky Gay Gordons); Aliss Mathias and Air. Alcllraith (Lucky Spot); Aliss J. Cousins and Mr. A. Vean (Alonto Carlo). The ball -was most enjoyable and the Allied Relief Appeal should benefit from the enthusiastic work of the P.D.C. staff.
