SPORTING

ON WANGANUI TRACKS PREPARATIONS FOR SPRING MEETING With tho Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting to open next Saturday, interest in training operations was keen enough to attract more than the usual number of spectators to the tracks on Saturday morning to see some of the winding-up gallops (states the Chronicle), but there was nothing sensational for track-watchers. Visiting horses are as yet few in numbers, and lack of transport facilities is as vexing a problem for the club as it is for owners and trainers. Weather conditions were ideal, but number one grass track was a trifle soft after showers earlier in the week. 11. Dulieus’ team was worked early, but it is understood that none of the members was on a time-making mission. Broiveine, Whackie, Martial Note, Desert Victory, Battle Royal and Mountain Fox at present comprise the team, but Dulieu also has Sunblaze. and Tideless in the Flying Handicap. Moreover, he has three engaged in the Debutant Stakes, including the 1500-guinea Ringmaster—-Submis-sion gelding, brother to Subdued. Getting away smartly from a barrier start at the half-mile Ann Bank (K. Chote) led Sleevelink (G. Ivil), the Saleve —Plain Jill gelding. Ann Bank, a Bulandshar —Jane Seymour Ally engaged in the Guineas as well as in the Maiden Race, ran the first two furlongs in 26sec.. and finished several lengths in front, taking a tick under 52sec. for the journey. Two Debutant Stakes candidates in Michael (Iv. Chote) and Behave (G. Ivil) showed good barrier manners when they jumped off from the tapes at the halfmile and ran to the quarter in 25 3-ssec., being pulled up a little further on. Kathey (Chote) and Shassallee (Ivil) were associated over five furlongs, Shassallee having a slight advantage at the finish to record a fi'action under 66sec. after the first quarter had taken them 26 sec. Shassallee, a filly by Legatee from Soutra, is engaged in the Putiki Hack, and Kathey claims engagements in the Maiden Race and Durie Hack as well as the Guineas. Hoodiki (G. Ivil) finished well clear of Lord Cavendish (Chote) at the end of four furlongs in 52sec., after cutting out the initial two furlongs in a shade under 25sec. A Golden Eagle—Merial filly, Hoodiki, has a Guineas engagement on Saturday week, but will probably be seen out in the Durie Hack Handicap on the first day of the meeting. Having his first gallop after a very lengthy respite, Amatory (Chote) did well to keep within range of Alright (Ivil) over the early stages of a display over six furlongs, taking 27see. for the firfet quarter and 39sec. for three. After that Alright went on in front to register lmin. 19 2-5 sec. foy the full distance. Alright is Mr. L. G. Paul's Inflation—Damaris gelding and is to contest the Putiki Hack Handicap as a preliminary to his Guineas engagement. He has a good turn of speed, but is regarded as one likely to lose ground at the barrier. Jackels (Ivil) slipped over three furlongs in a shade under SSsec. He is engaged in the Maiden Race. Solid pacework over a couple of circuits was the task set Indian Sport and Rehearsal, separately.

Killarney Boy (Ivil) shaped well in a spin over four furlongs, taking 50 2-ssec. and cutting out the first quarter in a shade over 24sec.
