Russians Make Further Advances in Rumania

LONDON, Sept. 3. Soviet reports indicate that the Red Army's advance up the Danube is meeting with heavier resistance and German reinforcements are arriving from Rumania. A Soviet communique says that the Russians north and west of Ploesti have advanced and occupied over 40 localities, including four railway stations. The Red Army south of Bucharast has entirely cleared the Germans from the northern hank of the Danube between Giurgiu and Oltenita and occupied a number of localities, including railway stations. Russian bombers ahead of the Red Army lines along the northern and central fronts have launched a new softening up offensive, says Reuter’s Moscow correspondent. They are using advanced air bases from which the Luftwaffe formerly operated.
