Help for Poland

(To the Editor.) Sir, —May I, through the medium of your columns, make an appeal for the Polish Red Cross! Just five years ago, Poland was attacked by Hitler and we were unable to send help. We saw her crushed between two overwhelming military forces. But the Polish ‘ ‘ will to light 77 was not crushed and every ablebodied man and boy left his native land to fight' on in exile. Sixty thousand of them fought in the Battle of France under General Sikorski; others gathered in Syria under General Kopanski; their fleet sailed to British ports; their airmen flew their battered planes to British airfields. In those grim days after Dunkirk when we “stood alone,’ 7 the Poles were with us. They helped to man the coastal defences and their 303 Squadron brought down 126 German planes during the Battle of Britain. The exploits of their submarine Arzcl, rank among the tho great epics of the sea. Tho Poles have never wavered, never changed sides, never relaxed in their fight for freedom for their country and for ours. This week is “Aid to Allies 77 Week in Palmerston North, and we all have the opportunity to help Poland in repairing the ravages and misery of five years under German occupation by giving generously to the Polish Red Cross. On Wednesday of this week the Polish Army League will staff the patriotic shop and your gifts of money and all proceeds of sales will be allocated to the Polish Fund. Remember Poland: First to Fight, Longest to Suffer, Most in need of your help.—l am, etc., ANN KATHLEEN JACQUES. (Hon. Org. Sec. Polish Army League).
