Defenders of Brest Don’t Know Paris Has Fallen

Beceived Friday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 1. The German garrison troops in Brest which is beseiged by the Americans have been forbidden by their commander to listen to the radio. A captured American doctor told the American commander this yesterday when ho brought a letter from the German commander under a flag of truce. The doctor said the Germans inside Brest did not know of the liberation of Paris or of the Allied landings in Southern France.

The letter notified the Americans that a new German hospital area had been built on the western side of the harbour. The building of the new hospital area is taken as an indication tba‘ the casualties inside the city are high.

The American spearheads are now less than six miles from the centre of Brest where big fires are burning.
