Auckland’s All-Citizen Representation
MRS. DREAVER BEATEN FOR CITY COUNCIL (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 28. In a triangular contest for the Auckland Mayoralty the sitting Mayor (Mr. J. A. C. Allinn) who was sponeorcd by the Citizens’ and Ratepayers' Association, was successful by a margin of 0336 votes. The figures were: Allum, J. A. C 17,492 Anderton, W. T., M.P. (Lab.) 11,156 Macky, J. Victor (Ind.) .. .. 7,449 The Citizens’ Association won all 21 seats on the City Council, returning 16 members of the former Council. The only Labour representative on that Council, Mrs. M. M. Dreaver, was defeated. The total of 52 candidates included 19 Labour nominees and two Communists for whom Labour supporters were officially urged to vote. The Citizens’ Association won all the Auckland City seats on the Harbour Board and Hospital Board. Mr. A. J. Moody, chairman of the Hospital Board, was re-elected.
