Australian Women Demand a “ Say ”
Women of Australia are demanding a “say” in the control of rationing, food production and conservation of prices. At a meeting of the New South Wales Housewives’ Association a resolution to the effect that unless women representatives are included on the Rationing Commission, the Prices Commission and Food Control, members of the association in New' South Wales will organiso a campaign to vote against the referendum for the proposed alteration of the constitution. The chairman, Mr. Glencross, said: “As a body w r e are prepared to sell our votes for once in order to obtain some say in these affairs. ’ ’ The Minister of Customs, Senator Keane, has sent a letter asking women to cooperate iu meat rationing. “He called women ‘unsung heroes of the war,’ and he is trying to coax us with soft words,” Mrs. Glencross said. “I have written to the Director of Rationing advising him that we will help all we can, but that we are becoming a little tired of doing all the cooperating in the face of so much bungling.”
