Meat Rationing This Month in Australia
AMPLE FOR HEALTH AND NUTRITION Received Friday, 11.25 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 7. Details of the meat rationing which will he introduced in Australia on January 17 were announced to-night by the Minister of Trade and Customs (Mr. Keane). Rationing will he on the coupon system and persons over nine will receive from 1J to 41bs. of meat a week according to tie meat group from which the purchases are made. Children under nine will he entitled to half the ration.
Four coupons will be available each fortnight. One coupon will enable the purchaser to buy in a group in which meat has little or no bone, threequarters of a lb. of steak fillets of veal or pork; B group, lib. of sirloin with bone, porterhouse or T bone steak, loin cuts or chops; C group, l£lbs. of back ribs or various cuts of lamb or veal; D group, 21bs. of gravy beef, minced meat or various cuts of mutton. Several types of meat such as sausages, tripe, liver, brains, tongues, oxtails and kidneys can he purchased without coupons. Members of the Services living at home will he entitled only to the civilian ration.
“No one will suffer from lack of nutrition because of the meat rationing,” said Mr. Keane. “The Government has obtained the best possible advice on this question, and the ration for each person will he ample for health and nutrition. ’ ’
NO INCREASE IN BRITISH CLOTHING COUPONS

Announcing that there will he no increase in the number of clothing coupons for the next six months from February 1, Dr. Dalton said: “Nearly all our wool, cotton and leather must come from overseas and as the war moves to its climax in the coming months there will be many new and urgent calls upon our ships.”
