The painting of the typical “Mum” of the men in the forces, which is to hang in the new clubrooms of the Auckland R.S.A. is to be done by the best available portrait painter in New Zealand, or possibly by an artist overseas. The donor of the painting, who wishes to remain anonymous, is approaching New Zealand artists and art authorities to discover who could best paint the portrait, and if no one in this country appears suitable, the inquiries will be pursued abroad. The choice of the type of “Mum” that seems most characteristic of the mothers of men in the forces will be left entirely to the artist. The portrait will hang in a prominent place in the clubrooms, probably in the entrance hall.
