Pigs, Poultry and Produce

The Dominion Auctioneering Co., Ltd-, Palmerston North, reporting on their first sale of the New Year held on Thursday, state that a medium entry of pigs came forward, best porkers selling to £2 9s, and light porkers to £2, while heavy stores sold from 30s to 395. A good entry of poultry was disposed of, all lines showing a decline on values with the exception of pullets which brought up to 10s. Large quantities of fruit and vegetables were disposed of at the undermentioned rates. Quotations:—

Pigs: Best weaners 15s to 18s, small 8s to 10s, heavy stores 30s to 395, light 24s to 265, heavy porkers to £2 9s, light £1 17s 6d to £2.

Poultry: Heavy hens 4s Id to 6s 3d, light to medium 2s to 3s 6d, young ducks 5s Id to Bs, old 2s 6d to 3s 6d, hens and chicks 7s to 13s, best cockerels 4s to 5s 4d, light to medium Is to 3s, best pullets 9s 3d to 10s, others 5s 6d to 78 3d.

Produce: Strawberries 4s Id per lb., boysen berries Is to Is 2d per lb., black currants 16s to 17s per case, cherries 2s to 2s 6d per lb., peaches to 12s 6d pe.r case, plums to lus per case, nectarines 5s to 18s per case, cucumbers 18s to 24s per case, tomatoes, hothouse Is 3d to 2s per lb., outdoor lOd to Is 4d per Ibu, peas 3£d to lid lb., beans 2d to 9d lb., lettuce, best 8s to 12s 6d per ease, others 4s to 5s 6d per case, marrows 2s Gd to 5s per case, rhubarb 7s to 10s per dozen bunches. :
