Notes of the Day This evening’s dance in the Drill Hall for patriotic funds is promoted as a civic function. Those soldiers home on leave will be admitted free as the guests of the committee. Continued broken weather conditions prevail over the Feilding district and yesterday’s wind and intermittent rains interfered considerably with seasonal operations on farms. The lack of sunshine is generally commented upon since normally this period should be one of warmer weather. The heavyweight fat bullock recently sold in the Feilding saleyards on account of Mr. C. Chisholm,, of Iluntervillc, for patriotic purposes provoked considerable discussion as to its dead weight. Recently it was announced that the beast killed out at just under llOOlbs. Beef cattle sold in the fat cattle pens at Feilding yesterday commanded prices, equalling those last registered during the boom period of 1919-20. The unusually high prices arise from a very 1 real shortage of fat cattle which in ' turn has created a keen demand throughlout the North Island. The best price I for fat bullocks yesterday was £2O 17s . 6d and this was the price per head for a truck lot. Members of the Feilding Boy Scout and Cub troops participated in an interesting week’s activities which included instruction in boxing and the second of a series of successful dances. At the week-end a field day at Kiwitea proved instructive, while on Sunday a combined troop victory church parade was well supported at the Anglican Church. On Wednesday evening in the troop’s hall Rev. B. F. Carlisle gave an inspiring address, a court of honour closing the gathering.
