Prominent U.S. Politician Indicted for Fraud

Received Friday, 8.10 p.m. WASHINGTON, Sept. 17. The Federal Grand Jury has indicted Representative James Curley, a democrat who was a former Governor of Massachusetts and thrice Mayor of Boston, and five others on 21 charges of violation of the mail fraud statute in connection with the operation of an alleged Government war contract and a brokerage racket. The indictment alleged that defendants fraudulently represented themselves as experienced consulting engineers with special facilities for obtaining Government war contracts. They collected retainers as high as 9000 dollars and signed contracts

charging 8 per cent, on all war contracts obtained. The indictment adds that defendants formed a companyknown as Engineers Group Incorporated and created a fictitious advisory board using the names of nationally known industrialists and engineers none of whom gave permission or were aware that their names were used.
