Big Fortress Attacks On French Targets

35 ENEMY FIGHTERS SHOT DOWN Received Saturday, 1.5 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 17. Thirty-five enemy fighters were shot down yesterday during British and American attacks on French targets. Thirteen of our bombers and three of our fighters are missing. Fortresses attacked Nantes, La Pallice, Cognac and La Rochelle targets. The formations attacking Cognac and La Pallice flew more than ICOO miles and 29 enemy fighters were destroyed. Spitfires escorted American Marauders and R.A.F. Mitchells which last evening attacked enemy airfields at Beaumont le Roger and Tricqueville, the marshalling yards at Sercfii&c and the power station near Rouen. The Spitfires shot down six enemy fighters for the loss of two. There were no bomber losses.

The Paris radio announced that casualties in the American air raid on the Paris area on Wednesday night have risen to 250 killed and 700 injured.
