An Elector’s Tribute

MR. GORDON’S CAMPAIGN IN RANGITIKEI

“Never in the history of politics in Rangitikei has a candidate made such rapid strides as a public speaker as Mr. E. B. Gordon, the National Party nominee,” stated an elector in northern Rangitikei in a letter to the meeting of National Party delegates in Marton last night. “I heard Mr. Gordon speak at Marton iin the early part of his campaign when I thought that .in the first part of his address he was a bit shaky, but towards the finish he was outstanding and he scored repeatedly in his replies to questions. Since then he lias made a wonderful improvement and his recent addresses are outstanding examples of a first-class politician. He has a wonderful grasp of all the leading planks of the National Party’s platform and’the concise and explicit manner in which he expounds the policy is a credit to himself and the electorate ho represents. Electors who will have the privilege of hearing Mr. Gordon in his final addresses should make a point of listening to him on the “fight for freedom,” concluded the writer. Eighty delegates were present from all parts of the electorate and the enthusiasm displayed augurs well for the success of the National Party. Mr. J. Caithness presided. Final arrangements were made for election day and tho question of conveying electors to the poll was discussed. Voters unable to travel to the polling booths are requested to ring the following telephone numbers in their districts:—Marton 2301; Taihape 2654; Hunterville 127; Ohingaiti 224; Mflkirikiri 714 (Wanganui); Okoia 715 (Wanganui) ; Fordell 401 (Wanganui); Kakatahi 349 (Wanganui); Turakiba 2555; Ivimbolton 46; Rangiwahia S; Beaconsfield 136 R (Feilding); Waituna West 171 M (Feilding); Parewanui 11M; Kiwitea 647 U (Feilding); Mangaweka 17M; Bulls 19. Messrs T. Barton, A. Govenlock and A. P. Howard were appointed as a candidate’s committee. During the final week, Mr. Gordon will address the electors at the following places: At Mr. E. Baddeley’s woolshed at Knkatahi at 2 p.m. and at Dune Hill School at S p.m. on Monday, September 20; at Kiwitea Hall on Tuesday, September 23, at S p.m.; at the Marton Civic Theatre on Wednesday, September 22, at S p.m.; at Mr.' E. Hine’s residence, Ngamatea, at 11 a.m. and Mangamahu Hall at 2 p.m., and at Bulls Town Hall at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 23. During the campaign, Mr. Gordon will have addressed the electors at 46 places in the-electorate. In reply to a question re postal voting, it was stated that in the event of illness or infirmity which precluded an elector from attending at any pollingplace to vote, an application to the Registrar of Electors at Marton for a postal vote certificate should be . made immediately and a certificate would be forwarded.
