Pretty Furlough Wedding at Halcombe

HEW SON -- THOW Quietly married at St. James’ Anglican Church, Halcombe, were Jean Louise, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thow, of Stamvay Road, Halcombo, and Dvr. Wallace Hewson, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hewson, Princess Street, Waitara. The bridegroom, who left New Zealand in 1939 with the First Echelon of the Second N.Z.E.F., has seen service in all campaigns in the Middle East, and is homo on furlough. The brido was a W.A.A.C. at Staff College, Palmerston North. Escorted by her father, the brido looked charming in her graceful frock of magnolia satin, cut on princess line?, and a tulle veil caught with a headdress of orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of freesias, June roses, white cyclamen, and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid, Miss Doris Thow, wore a frock of pale cyclamen pink taffeta, with a spray of violets on the shoulder, and a headdress of pearls and violets, and carried a bouquet of violets and deep pink cyclamen and maidenhair fern. Attending the bridegroom was Pte. Laurie Chalk, of Staff College. Palmerston North. The bridegroom’s gift to the brido was a gold chain and pendant, aud to the bridesmaid, he gave a gold locket and chain. Arch deacon Petrie, of Feilding, performed the ceremony and Mrs. G. Burgess, Halcombe, presided at the organ. As the bride left the church, she was presented with a silver horseshoe by Miss S. Ansin. After tho wedding reception, which was held in the Jubilee Hall, the happy couple left for a tour of the South Island.
