i The death was recently announced of 1 Mr. J. F. Saunders, who for some veers ' resided in the Mauawfctu district. k>. ~a , at Featherston in 1867 Mr. Maunder*. : belonged to a pioneering family, hia mother (nee McHardie) having come to New Zealand with her parents in the ; “Lady Nugent" in 1811. For many J years his parents were farming at Moutoa, and it was there that ho received i his schooling. After some years in the > Government employ in Wellington Mr. Saunders was engaged iu sawmilling at | Shannon. In 1907 he took up farming at Ngaere, Taranaki, where he lived until six years ago, when he retired to spend his remaining years at M&tamata. ‘ Mr. Saunders was keenly interested m 1 licensing reform and was an enthusiastic member of the Methodist Church. • He is survived by his widow, two ( daughters (Mrs. H. Clement, Opunake, and Mrs. F. L. Tarrant, Okoroire), and i two sons (Mr. G. F. Saunders, Wanganui, and Mr. I. W. Saunders, of New J Plymouth). There are twelve grandchildren.
