Victory Parade in City To-day

In connection with the celebration by the people, of the Italian surrender, the Mayor (Mr. Mansford) announces arrangements Avith the military authorities for a parade of servicemen in the city to-day at 2.30 p.m., when fitting observance will be accorded the great Allied victory. To mark the capitulation of Italy, flags were flown on all Government buildings in Palmerston North yesterday. Private business firms also displayed flags, and in some cases, strings of flags and bunting were stretched across the tops of buildings to flutter gaily in the breeze. At the request of the Mayor (Mr. Mansford), church bells were rung In joyful peals at 10 a.m. and ugain at midday, and shortly after noon they were again rung. The fire sirens were sounded shortly after noon and factory whistles added to the note of jubilation, the spirit of which was manifest among many of the citizens. All schools in New Zealand will observe a holiday to celebrate the surrender of Italy, announced the Minister of Education (Mr. Mason).
