Cost of the War to Britain
(British Official Wireless.) Received Sunday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, Sept- 4. The war has already coat Britaim nearly double last jrar’s total and American Lend-Leaee aid exceeds the total war loans made by the United States in the last war, says the Aasociated Press. Britain thus fnr has spent more than £18,000,000,000, borrowing outside lend-lease an amount of roughly £10,000,000,000 compared with £7,000,000,000 during the last war. Two-fifths of the war outgoings thus far have been met from taxes, and despite the crescendo of national expenditure, the ratio of tax revenue to outgoings is improving. It was 46.25 per cent, for the last twelve months compared with less than 30 per cent, for 1914-18.
