Bridgehead Widened To Forty Miles
Received Monday, 1 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 6,
As a result of their advances the Eighth Army on the Calabrian Peninsula has widened its bridgehead to 40 miles around the coast and has now a sound base for further advances. General Montgomery is at Reggio directing operations. It is pointed out that the enemy may decide to make a stand at Catanzaro, further up the peninsula where the coastline bulges out. Already 2000 prisoners have been taken, mostly Italians.
