National Club
At an executive meeting of the PalmNorth National Club (air. H. A. Seifert presiding) the statement of accounts showed the club to be in a most flourishing condition, Membership had continued to gain and there was a continued advance in the use of the club for various functions and meetings, largely of a patriotic nature. Two card evenings are now conducted regularly every week with excellent attendances, air. C. S. Rawcliffe (euchre convener) and air. P. ,W. Weldon (convener of the "500” evenings introduced last month) both reported to this effect and mentioned particularly the generous donations of prizes on the part of players. The Junior National branch, Palmerston North electorate, has assisted by serving suppers at the "500” evenings. Advice was also received from the chairman of this organisation (air. Trevor Nash) to the effect that in return for the use of the club premises, the juniors would donate portion of the profits derived from their own functions to the club, an offer the executive was happy to accept. The fact of there being no National candidate in the Palmerston North electorate on the occasion of this general election was not allowed to interfere with the conduct of the club, which will maintain its activities as in the past. Quotations axe to be secured for certain renovations. A committee appointed for the purpose at the last executive meeting reported securing a satisfactory supply of crockery. The secretary hostess (Mrs. H. A. Seifert), who had tendered her resignation on account of personal considerations and which was to have taken effect at the end of July, is now carrying ■ on. A rearangement of duties made possible by the increased help of lady members enabled this satisfactory outcome.
