Manawatu Drainage Board
Mr. W. E. Thomas was in the chair at a meeting of the Manawatu Drainage Board in Palmerston North yesterday. In regard to the control of an artesian well at Cloverlea, it was decided that tho clerk write to Mr. H. G. B. Jewell, stating that the responsibility of the well rested on the whole of the settlers concerned. A full Board meeting is shortly to be held on the matter. A report was furnished by the chairman on an interview with members of a deputation concerning Whisky Creek. Certain sections of the creek required attention and it was suggested by Mr. Thomas that money be allocated to settlers to carry out the work themselves. However, this idea was criticised by Trustee J. B. Chrystall, who considered that at least one settler he anew was to blame for the blockage, due to lxip leaving tree stumps which hampered the flow. After further consideration, it was decided to do nothing in the matter as the farmers themselves could be held responsible to a large extent for the present condition of the creek. A letter is to be sent to the settler whose trees have been causing damage, 6tating that they are to be removed. The overseer reported that Mitchell's (Newbury). Bailey's, Cheetham's, Sutherland’s and Guy's drains had been cleaned. McCulloch's drain was at present receiving attention. It was decided to hold the next meeting at 10 o'clock and future meetings likewise until otherwise stated. TRAVEL DANGER. Hours in a stuffy railway car ... no woader germs get their chance.
