Greek Patriots Capture Key Pass

LONDON, Sept. 1. Operating in close liaison with the Allied High Command, Greek guerrillas have been destroying Axis cominunica tions and recently captured a key pass in the Pindus Mountains, says the As sociated Press’s Istanbul correspond ent. Nearly 5000 Greeks are fighting in specially formed companies, and an other 100,000 are ready to join immediately they receive arms from the Allies. The Italian withdrawal from some areas in Greece and the German concentration on strategic districts have virtually liberated considerable portions of Inner Greece. The Greeks in some places have even elected town councils and mayors and are living without Axis interference.

Guerrilla activities are keeping the vital Athens-Salonika railway constantly broken. The patriots are destroying bridges and tunnels immediately tho Germans repair them.
