HORSES FOR WANGANUI MEETING GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI GOOD GOING YESTERDAY With the Wanganui meeting Just over a week away there were many interesting gallops at Awapuni yesterday morning. The course proper was open but the flags were about 60 feet out and the times, except for comparison, were of little use. G. W. Nfiw'a horses were first to work. Rink (J. Fagan) was kept to even time until lie approached tiie three where he was speeded up to run home in 40 3-5. He looks v Kaitoa ai.w Tavern Light were let oft with light exercise. Screen tA. G. Waddell), looking a picture of health, slipped home from the three in a tick under 40. She could have done better. Don Quex (A. G. Waddell) and Gladynev (A. Lowness) worked strongly over a mile. They began slowly but they were travelling before they reached the seven and they ran the last five In 1.12 3-5 and the last three In 42 3-5. They were going easily together at the finish. Aspen and Solver were kept to even time over five, Sir Bradbury being set a similar task. Nighean (,AI. Andrews) worked over seven. She went well but she was not against the watch. Vera Lynn (.Smith) and Flying Acre (D. W. Redstone) were together at the end of six run in 3.24. They ran the last three in 41, which was good. Broiefield (Redstone) and Kia Kaha (L. G. Morris) scampered home from the three m 41. Kahuranaki and Leisurely worked at three-quarter pace. Theorist (V. Sellars) and Black Robe (J. Sellars) were companions over five but Theorist was eased approaching the post. Black Robe cut the distance out in 1.8, the last three in 41, and it was ascertained later that Theorist had struck herself inflicting quite a gash. Beneve (H. Pearce) and Some Sing (Bowness) sprinted three in 41 3-5 and Phalaria (Redstone) took 40 4-5. Classform (H. P. Stewart) under a good hold worked over seven in 1.47. She looks well. Conspicuous (J. Bowness) and Blainichburn (R. B. Ireland) were going along smoothly and easily at the end of five run in 1.12 3-5. An interesting item on the programme was a barrier start by eight youngsters. Mr. Attlck, the caretaker, officiated as starter. Quickest to begin were the tliree-year-aids, Ballynokane (H. P. Stewart) and The Beat (J. Sellars) and they finished in front after running down tlio straight in 26 1-5. A number of horses were schooled, among them being .Moderate (Redstone) and Greek .Effort (Bowry), Anglo-Irish (Redstone), To Kawhiti (A. Midwood) and one from L. Knapp’s stable (.Miss Freda White), and Young Bill (Howard). The light was not too good at times but all jumped well. Young Bill is now in •J. J. Waller’s stable and lie shaped well for a novice. Henry of Huntingdon (T. Paul) and Half Caste (Miss White) jumped the country in good style, cutting out only the sod wall. Out on the track was Stuard Waddell, who recently left hospital. He rode sumo work but he stated that, he was only out for the day—that he had not yet “rejoined the active brigade.’’ AVONDALE WEIGHTS KINGSLAND HURDLES, £400; 13 miles.—The Dozer 11.7, Black Musk 11.2, Hunto 10.13, Wildore 10.9, Radiant Bay 10.0, Bisquit 9.13, Lapidarian 9.9, Rich Blood, Flylite, Stock Exchange, Sir Grant 9.3, Northlander 9.2, Classic, Gar Vaals, Venture, Ramillies, Gold Age, Sir Nyx, Ugly Duckling, Irish Morn, White Mark 9.0.
