AMUSEMENTS REGENT TO-DAY —2, “ WAKE ISLAND ” “ WAKE ISLAND ” “ WAKE iSEAND ” l Early on a sunny December day in 1941 an epic of human courage upparalleled in history began on a tiny island in the Pacific—WAKE ISLAND. The tight little sandy stretch of land was attacked by the Japs, with savage rutklcssness, on the same day as Pearl Harbour. Radio and wireless hurled the news back home across thousands of miles of ocean. The people wdre stunned; they were furious, vengeful. There were some four hundred Marine officers and men on WAKE ISLAND, and over a thousand civilian defence workers. The Japs lashed out with what they thought would be a crushing blow. Giant planes bombed every inch of the unprotected island. The Marines held. One day, two days, three days. The attacks grew more ferocious. The Japs sent more planes, more ships. Pour days, live days, six days. An inferno raged on WAKE ISLAND. The Marines lashed back, making the Japs pay a frightful price. At home America was thrilled by the magnificent stand. Its heart went out to those men who were setting an example of heroism and courage to inspire the whole nation. This is the story of unparalleled heroism told in personal terms of men against a background of cannon, diving, shrieking planes, thundering warships, death-splitting maekineguns. “ WAKE ISLAND ” “ WAKE ISLAND ”, “ WAKE ISLAND ” —Starring BRIAN DONLEVY MacDONALD CAREY ROBERT PRESTON ALBERT DEKKER A story of heroism and sacrifice for the wives, sweethearts, mothers and sisters of all Free Men.
