Trespass by Night
At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Mr. H. P. La wry, S.M., presiding, Ruby Elizabeth Nico.l, a domestic, aged 21, was charged with being found by night without lawful excuse in the enclosed premises of the Manawatu Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club. She was also charged with a breach of a prohibition order. She pleaded guilty to both charges. Francis Patrick Buckley, limeworker, was also charged with being found by night without lawful excuse on the same premises. He pleaded guilty. Detective Roddick stated that the two accused were members of a party of four which was found in the area. The other | two persons concerned were an overseas serviceman and a girl aged 16. The ser-, viceman was being dealt with by his own authorities and was facing a more serious charge with respect to the female accused. She had been drinking beer and had later grabbed a whisky bottle and drunk some of the contents. A few minutes afterwards she was in a helpless state of intoxication; she collapsed and had to spend two days in hospital. The female accused was fined £L on the first charge and £2 on the second charge, with costs 10s in each cose: and Buckley was fined £l, with costs 10s.
