Huge Pool of Slipping Available to Allies
GREAT EXCESS OF BUILDING OVER SINKINGS Eeceived Wednesday, 8.60 p.m. LONDON, July 7. British and American shipyards in June built more than one million tons more shipping than the Germans claimed to have sunk in the U-boat war in the month, says the Evening Standard’s naval correspondent. American shipyard deliveries la June give the United States alone practically one million tons of new construction above the German claims of destruction for the month. Even accepting the German claims of sinkings, Britain and America in the last three months have gained more than 1,700,000 tons.
An unexpectedly huge pool of (hipping has been added to our sea supply lines and if this rats is maintained the Allies will have by the end of the year enough shipping to move 500,000 more men over the invasion routes than was anticipated.
