German Objective Elimination of Bulge

LONDON, July 6. A broadcast from Moscow stated that the immediate German objective apparently is to cut off the Kursk bulge and the Russian troops concentrated there. Whether the ultimate object is another sweeping move against Moscow and the south is not yet clear. Commentators believe that the Germans, in their attack against the Russians, aim to thrust through the hinge between the armies of the Don and the Caucasus, sweeping north by Voronej to Moscow, and making a wider sweep south of Grozny.

The Daily Express says: “The fall of Moscow would mean victory. The Red Army would have to fall back to the Urals if the capital were now to fall.” It adds that the Germans’ probable aim at present is to break up tho mass of Soviet armour lying southwest of Moscow, under General Rokossovsky, who has a majority of the tanks sent to Russia from Britain in the past 12 months. The paper suggests that the Germans also aim at the wheat in the Tambov area southeast of Moscow.

The Evening Standard states: “\ve can have supreme confidence in this ally. There is good reason to believe that the Russians have established air supremacy over the whole front.”
