Naval Sailing Ship’s Adventurous Trip
RUGBY, July 6. Fifteen little ships, the only war vessels in the Royal Navy which are •till using sail, have just com ari adventurous voyage of some inilcs from Britain to the Mediterranean under Lieutenant A. E. Leonard 8.N.Z.N.V.R., of Auckland. The ships, which’ are only 60 feet
long, are officially described as motor fishing vessels. They made the voyage in about three weeks under sail or the power of their Diesel engines. Most ot the commanding officers were fishermen in peacetime, and some of the senior ratings are trawler and tug hands, t'o r j the ...ajor.tj, it was the first voyage outside home water.., The vessels carry u light armament, and their duties are mostly harbour defence, patrol, and ferrying services in naval ports.
