Splendid Response To National Savings
At a meeting of the National Savings Cpmmitteo yesterday morning gratification was expressed that the amount of national savings and sale of bonds for the district was proceeding towards the £300,000 mark it was hoped to reach. The chairman, Mr. M. A. Eliott, stressed the necessity for keeping on with the good work, the slogan to be “every wage earner a national saver.” Mr. Eliott commended the fine work of the organisers, Messrs D. A. Robinson and F. McLeod, in this connection, whose good offices had been largely responsible for this success, and tribute was also paid to post office officials, particularly the postmaster, Mr. W. J. Minogue, aud assistant postmaster, Mr. E. J. Smith, for their splendid lead. Arrangements have been made with tho banks in Palmerston North to be open between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday to receive applications for Liberty Loan stock. Freyberg Bonds on Sale. The Liberty Loan Committee has decided to dispose of 24 £lO bonds and three £1 bonds, which have been autographed by General Freyberg, at the
five stalls around the Square between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday and between the same hours on Friday. On each day some of the bonds will be placed at each stall, and at an undisclosed time the bond or bonds will be issued to the purchaser. Even the sellers will not know just when they are to be released. £IO,OOO Invested by Amalgamated Theatres. On behalf of their New Zealand circuit of theatres the Directors of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., have subscribed £IO,OOO to the Third Liberty War Loan. The total now invested by this company in War Loans is £36,000.
