Edmunds, of Awapuni, had the bad luck to lose his fine 12-year-ola sire, Inflation, last week. Inflation hat been proving himself one of the best ol New Zealand sires and his death means a distinct loss to the Dominion. He was by Paper Money from Fleeting. He was bought when a yearling by Mr. Edmunds, raced for him, and retired to the stud at the close of his five-year-old career. He was tho leading two-year-old of his year and won five races, including the Great Northern Foal Stakes. When thrpe years old he was taken to Sydney and won three races, including the Rosohill Three and Four-Year-Old Handicap. He met with an injury while there and returned home. After a spell he commenced his four-year-old career with a win at Wanganui and again went to Australia for tho spring racing carnival. The Camellia Stakes race was won by him, and in this event he defeated Turbine, who had the week previously broken tho Australian ana New Zealand record lor seven furlongs. Inflation subsequently had an easy win in the Rowley Mile, and was installed a hot favourite for the Epsom Handicap, but owing to the extremely heavy state of the track he did not show up in the race. The heavy ground also brought about a recurrence of an old injury and he was brought back to New Zealand. His best stake winners are Classform, Augment and Duncannon, all of them topping the £3OOO mark. MANAWATU AUTUMN MEETING ENTRIES DUE TONIGHT Nominations for the Manawatu Racing Club’s Autumn meeting at Awapuni on Saturday week are due to close with the secretary (Miss Buchanau) at 9 o’clock this eveniug, also forfeit of £1 for the Manawutu Sires’ Troduca Stakes.
